We have a young client who was reliant on using a 128 page PODD Book for communication.
This meant he tapped on an image of what he wanted to say and his communication aide or teacher moved to the page it said to go to, he would tap again and so on building his statement piece by piece, image by image. Those he was communicating with had to piece it together.
Proloquo2Go on the iPad enabled us to build his PODD book into a fully interactive communication device where he tapped on what he wanted, it placed text in the area at top of screen and went automatically to the linked page and so he built his statement and then could tap it to speak it with an Australian voice.
This put him in total control of what he wanted to say and gave him a voice as well.
Added to this was a custom keyguard to help direct his hand when using the touch screen and a mount that allowed it to be attached securely to his walker or to the desk when he was sitting at school.
